Yourself, a small group of friends, a trusty helicopter and an area bigger than the Swiss Alps… easily accessed via a 1 hour 15 minute flight north of Vancouver in Canada’s British Columbia, Bella Coola is all about small groups, small helicopters and a private wilderness atmosphere!
Bella Coola caters for first time heliskiers and less aggressive skiers (you should be a strong intermediate skiing blue runs with confidence and some black runs) and also have an Expert Only program. Groups are small and exclusive with just 4 to 5 guests per group with a highly experienced guide.
The Terrain
Bella Coola Heli Sports operate the world’s largest tenure from 1 lodge at 2.64 million acres – to put it into perspective, that’s 499 times bigger than Vail, 325 times Whistler-Blackcomb, 90 times larger than the Three Valleys and bigger than the entire Swiss Alps – all just for Bella Coola’s guests (a maximum of just 36 guests catered for across 3 lodges)! Terrain includes glaciers, open bowls, gladed tree runs and high rock spires and the area receives abundant snowfalls (20 – 30 metres on average over the winter).
The Lodging
Accommodation comes in the form of individual private cabins when staying at Tweedsmuir Park Lodge or comfortable lodge style rooms if doing a Pantheon or Big Mountain trip. 3 gourmet meals per day are all part of the experience – including continental and cooked breakfasts, packed lunch, hors d’oeuvre apres ski snacks and 3 course dinner. Spa facilities, a teepee sauna, large hot tub and fitness centre are available to be enjoyed at the end of a great day and wirelesss internet is available in the lodge and cabins.
