Skiing in Switzerland

The Swiss Alps inspire story after story with no end in sight. Of course, we all harken back to the tale of orphan Heidi growing up with her Grandfather there. Yet, in that whole story, no one ever skied, and that is simply unrealistic!

Switzerland possesses great opportunities to ski, such as at the Verbier Ski Resort. It has scenery that could wear-out-your-eyes from constant overuse. It offers world class skiable terrain including some areas where you’ll need black diamond skills!

The nightlife in Verbier is legendary as well since the village is large and the people are gregarious. As a result, it has become very popular, but there has also been a consequent upswing in prices within the resort. There is a slight cost penalty for those who want to be in the middle of the action!

Zermatt Ski Resort has much to offer, too, but more in the way of a quaint Swiss town. You’ll find no automobiles here; they are verboten! Instead, you’ll arrive by train and soon be engulfed by the beguiling, rustic nature of the place as you take in the incredible scenic views.

However, don’t be fooled by the slow paced nature of this village. With the Matterhorn staring down, overlooking everything, it inspires the natives to take advantage of everything the mountains have to offer. They have 142 ski lifts in this huge area which mean you can do something different every single day with no fear of repeating yourself!

Scoring 3/5 for restaurants (some of which are incredible), shopping, providing good value, and for having uncrowded runs is fine. That is because they score 4/5 with their great, reliable snow (9 m annually), the same for both their groomed runs and their Off-Piste runs, once again for their lifts, and for being quite family friendly.

Of course the same could be said of the Chalet Potosi which provides six of seven dinners per week (with wine), daily breakfast, afternoon tea, canapés and drinks before dinner, and of course a cheeseboard and chocolates after dinner.
